Best Plus Size Ski Wear for Women

Best Plus Size Ski Clothes

Plus-size ski wear for Women

The ski industry has not always done the best at being inclusive when it comes to providing gear for non straight sized participants. Ladies who fall outside of the standard size range have struggled for many years to find clothing that fits properly, functions well and looks nice. At outdoor DIVAS we are pleased to see several manufacturers stepping up to provide a selection of great outerwear and baselayers designed to work for skiers of all sizes.

Obermeyer Ski Jackets and Ski Pants

For several years now, Obermeyer has been one of our top selling brands thanks to its varied styles, quality, and reasonable prices. In addition to those qualities, Obermeyer ski wear offers one of the largest ranges of sizes from a ski clothing manufacturer. Almost every style is available in plus sizes, some even up to size 20 or 22. In addition to extended sizes, they also make short and long inseam pants as well as petite jackets. Their short inseam styles are 2 inches shorter than regular and longs have added 2 inches. Even better than all that is that these extra size options come in lots of colors besides black. Even one of their best-selling printed pants - The Printed Bond Pant- is sold in lengths and up to size 18.

One of our other favorite pieces from Obermeyer is the Tuscany and Tuscany II jackets. This jacket is extremely flattering on all body types with it's V-seams and always comes in a great selection of colors. It features light insulation and a slew of ski features all for under $300, which is a stellar value. The Tuscany jacket has enough style that it can easily transition to a night out for a truly versatile piece.

Outdoor Research Women's Ski Clothing

Newer to the plus size ski wear market is Outdoor Research. Outdoor Research is known for building technical wear that is often used in extreme conditions, including Everest expeditions. In 2020, they embraced the movement to more inclusive sizing. Working with plus size athletes from different disciplines they fine-tuned features and fit to adapt their already proven styles to work equally well for sizes 1X to 4X.

Popular pieces like the Snowcrew Jacket and Snowcrew pants are ready to tackle any weather conditions you might encounter. Outdoor research doesn't just stop at resort ski wear, they have bibs and shells in their plus collection as well to round out offerings for skiers seeking all sorts of winter experiences.

Options for Plus Size Ski Wear are Expanding

While we want to highlight Obermeyer and Outdoor Research for the work they have been doing to make skiing a more inclusive sport, they are not the only ones. Fortunately, a lot of other companies are following suit. We are seeing many companies, such as Kari Traa and Patagonia, increasing their sizing ranges up to 2XL. Mountain Hardwear has also launched plus size offerings to give women another option in the technical outerwear category. Almost every season, brands are adding more fits to their outerwear collections to make sure everyone can enjoy the outdoors regardless of body type. That is something we wholeheartedly support at outdoor DIVAS and we do our best to stock options from 4 to 14 beyond to also support inclusivity in the outdoor industry.
